Nestled among the mountains and forests of Jalapa, Guatemala, lies a vibrant community where a young student’s dream of becoming an architect is beginning to take shape. At the Jalapa National Middle School, Luis Manuel’s enthusiasm for learning has found a new spark thanks to the school’s updated Computer Center.
Luis Manuel, the middle child of three, has always had a creative streak. “Carpentry is my favorite subject,” he shares with a smile. “I can use my imagination to create things with wood.” Now, with access to new computers, Luis Manuel is eager to explore design software to model his ideas and take his passion for building to the next level.
His aspirations don’t stop there.
Despite his family’s roots in teaching and mechanics, his mother is a teacher, and his father is a motorcycle mechanic—Luis Manuel dreams of becoming an architect.
“Technology has made architecture much more accessible,” he explains. “From drawings to creating models, everything is done on a computer. I want to travel the world and contribute to global development.”
The Computer Center has already made a noticeable difference.
“The lab is more organized, the equipment’s performance is much better, and learning has become significantly easier,” he says. This improvement is not just for Luis Manuel but for all his classmates and future students, creating a ripple effect of progress in the community.
